RED & WHITE AND HEARTS ALL OVER

How many seconds did it take you to
recognize "Love" in the very modern design in our right-hand window
(pictured at the left) as you enter the shop? Cindy started with the
Tula Pink Pattern Co. pattern,
Love, and retained the
size of the 4-letter motif while choosing a smaller overall size for
her quilt. The Tula Pink design is 50" × 60", while Cindy's quilt
measures 30" × 40"; we offer the pattern for
Love, and
inserted a card with the details for Cindy's quilt so that you can make
your quilt in either size. To the right of
Love, check out the
brightly colored hearts in
Rainbow Hearts; do the colors remind
you of jelly beans? You will find this design on pages 50-55 of
Jelly
Babies, Adorable Quilts from 2½" Strips, created by the
staff at That Patchwork Place®. Since
Rainbow Hearts makes
good use of strip-piecing methods, the hearts go together faster than
you might think.
Hearts Afloat is draped in the far corner of
our right-hand window; it is featured on the cover of the
January/February issue of
Quiltmaker, and you will find the
instructions on pages 26-29. And be especially sure to save pages 64
& 65 of this issue of
Quiltmaker; this is the "basic
lessons" section, with nicely illustrated descriptions on
appliqué techniques, adding borders, quilting, and applying a
binding to your quilt.
Now, if you look very closely in front of
Hearts
Afloat, you will see Baby Bear; Baby Bear is made from two 10"
fabric squares and some scraps of contrasting fabric for ears, using
the pattern by Bunny Hill Designs. A bunch of Baby Bear's friends and a
family of rabbits - "Snickerdoodles," also from Bunny Hill Designs -
may be found in our left-hand window (on the right, above). This window
features a variety of great projects for the Valentine season. Pink and
red Mitered Placemats grace the far wall.
(Were you one of the 40 people who came to Lois's demo on the 13th?) To
the right of the Mitered Placemats is our Valentine version of the
Holly Days Inn table runner, with instructions on pages 34-37 of
Quiltmaker's Small Quilts & Gifts, Fall 2011. You can make
this quilt in our Easy Pieced Table Runner class; see our NEW CLASSES
page. Moving further to your right, we have two pillowcases made with
the "hot dog" technique; you can make these almost as fast as you can
eat a hot dog, and we have kits with Valentine fabrics ready for you.
And the class model - with three rows of hearts - for Carol Bell's
Beginning Paper Piecing class fits beautifully in this month's theme;
the text book for this class, Carol Doak's
Show Me How to Paper
Piece, is displayed immediately above the class model. Baby Bear's
friends and Snickerdoodles are camped out on the placemats on the floor
of the window,
Sealed With A Kiss, described on pages 76-78 of
the February/March issue of
The Quilter Magazine. Finally, we
invite you to
check out our BIG Dresden Plate quilt, partially visible in the top of
the picture; Jean is teaching a Dresden Plate class (see our NEW
CLASSES page), and we have the Clover Trace 'n Createquilt®
templates that enable you to make Dresden plates and fans in 6 sizes,
ranging from 12" to 40."
