You finish the quilt top by appliqueing branches on the trees and three hummingbirds in flight. If you look closely at the picture of the quilt on the front cover of the pattern, shown here, you will see lots of flowers in the forest, between the darker foreground, and the lighter sky at the top. (Several Rolie Polie strips in this collection are left over for other projects.)

Quilted By: Danyella Nava
Pattern: Catmosphere by Stephanie Marrott
Technique: Machine pieced and quilted
Cost: $95.00
The feature fabric designed by Stephanie Marott has ten (10) 8” × 10” panels, each with a different fanciful cat motif. As illustated by the picture of the quilt on the pattern, pictured here, a second fabric in the collection is designed for use as a border. (How are you at sewing borders with mitered corners?) The remaining fabrics in the quilt, also from Stephanie’s Catmosphere collection, are continuous yardage prints.

LULLABY BABY
46” × 46”
Pieced and Quilted By: Debbie Williams
Pattern: Lullaby Baby by Christine Stainbrook
Technique: Machine pieced and quilted
Cost: $67.50
The cover of the pattern, shown here, has a digital representation of the Lullaby Baby quilt, sewn with fabrics from the Julia collection designed by Whistler Studios for Windham Fabrics. Before you get too overwhelmed by the apparent complexity of the design, note that it is simply a set of nine, nine-patch blocks. Paper templates are included in the kit for cutting the star points for the four 8-pointed stars. Note, however, that, if you have the Peaky & Spike ruler set, you won’t need to use the paper templates.
NIGHT BEAT
43” × 43”
Pieced By and Quilted By: Phyllis Henry
Pattern: Night Beat by Jackie Theriot, Back Cat Creations
Technique: Machine pieced and quilted
Cost: $50.00
Note the stunning border, framing the panel from the City Dreams collection, designed by Karen Gillis Taylor for Clothworks. The cover of the pattern, shown here, notes that the “(s)strata technique for precise piecing” is used; this is just a less common way of sayng that one starts by sewing strip sets which are then the basis for creating the more complex red-green-blue portion of the border.
