Summer might be coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t brighten up your home with some special summer-themed décor. One of the best things about the summer months is all of the fresh produce, including delicious strawberries. Strawberries are delightful to eat, but they also have a beautiful color pattern that is enjoyable to look at. You can create your very own decorative summer strawberry coasters with a few tools, a sewing machine and some quilting fabric in Albuquerque, NM. Here’s how:
Gather your supplies: To create these coasters, you’ll need some red and green fabric, fusible fleece, green ribbon and some iron-on adhesive. Look for quilting fabric in Albuquerque, NM with fun floral patterns or unique designs to create coasters that are really one of a kind.
Cut out your shapes: First, apply the fusible fleece to the fabric that you want on the bottom of your coaster using an iron. Next, draw the shape that you want for your coaster on a piece of paper and cut it. Using this paper, trace the outline of your coaster onto the fabric that you’ve fused to your fleece as well as another piece of fabric that you want for the top of your coaster. You can use another outline to cut out the stem of your strawberry from your green fabric.
Sew your pieces together: Take the piece of fabric with the fusible fleece and the fabric that will be the top of your coaster and lay them so that their right sides are facing in. Stitch along the outside of your shape and trim away any extra fabric after you’re done stitching. Next, make a small slit in the fabric that will be the top of your coaster, about half an inch below the stitch at the top of your coaster. Using this slit, pull your design inside out so that the right side of your fabric is facing outwards with the fusible fleece inside the coaster.
Add your accents: Next, you can quilt your coasters to bind all of the pieces together using whatever stitch pattern you like. After you’ve finished quilting your coaster, you can add your accents. Apply the stem for your strawberry using iron-on adhesive and add a piece of green ribbon at the top of the coaster as the stem.
